Distribution of heating oil begins, subsidy broadened

The distribution of heating oil began on Tuesday, with prices expected to reach around 1.30 euros per liter, about 5 percent lower than last year.

The Finance Ministry said in a statement on Monday that it would broaden the amount of households that can receive a heating oil subsidy.

According to the ministry’s statement, the number of households that can receive the benefit – and have to apply for it – will increase from 500,000 last year to 580,000, while the subsidy per liter of heating oil will rise from 0.28 euros to 0.35 euros.

A deposit of 25 percent of the total amount will also be payable in advance. This only concerns heating for primary residences.
