Business deals offer major boost to Athens bourse

The local bourse posted a major rise on remarkable turnover on Friday, with the benchmark index climbing to new 26-month highs, aided by the announcement of deals between the Mytilineos Group and Eurobank Properties with Fairfax.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 1,166 points, adding 2.38 percent to Thursday’s 1,138.90 points. On a weekly basis it has grown by 5.12 percent. The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX 25 expanded by 2.32 percent to end at 387.51 points.

Banks outperformed, as Piraeus added 5.30 percent and National rose 4.36 percent. Frigoglass lost 1.74 percent.

In total, 100 stocks posted gains, 43 suffered losses and 20 stayed put.

Turnover amounted to 163.6 million euros, more than twice Thursday’s 79.5 million.
