Stocks enjoy best month since 2010

This October was the Greek bourse’s best month in more than three years (39 months), as the benchmark index had climbed a remarkable 17.27 percent during the period by the end of Thursday’s session. Banks fared even better, adding 26.92 percent.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 1,188.17 points, expanding 1.27 percent from Wednesday’s 1,173.30 points. The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX 25 rose 1.16 percent to end at 394.52 points.

OTE telecom grew 5.09 percent, with METKA adding 5.08 percent. OPAP was the worst off among blue chips, giving up 3.48 percent.

In total, 95 stocks posted gains, 46 sustained losses and 16 ended unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 122 million euros, after reaching a month-high of 667.8 million euros on Wednesday.
