First weekly losses after five weeks of gains on the local bourse

Friday’s local bourse session brought an end to five weeks of weekly gains for the benchmark, with the main index posting a 1.08 percent drop since Monday’s opening. However, observers put this down to the market digesting October’s great rise in stock prices.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 1,177.70 points, giving up 0.88 percent from Thursday’s 1,188.17 points. The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX 25 contracted 0.92 percent to end at 390.88 points. Mid-caps inched up 0.26 percent.

Intralot outperformed, adding 5.13 percent, while Viohalco slumped 5.48 percent and OTE telecom shrank by 4.20 percent.

Rising stocks outnumbered losers, as 73 stocks went up, 64 headed south and 16 stayed unchanged.

Turnover amounted to just 68.8 million euros, down from Thursday’s 122 million.
