Troika worries, bearish mood in Europe take toll on stocks

Investor worries about the atmosphere of the talks between the government and its international creditor representatives as well as the southbound trend witnessed on markets across Europe on Tuesday took the local bourse’s benchmark index to the lowest point of the last 17 sessions.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 1,129.86 points, 3.10 percent lower than Monday’s 1,165.99 points. The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX 25 contracted by 3.26 percent to end at 374.35 points.

Viohalco’s decision to merge with its Belgian subsidiary and move to Belgium was met with a drop of 8.79 percent in its price, while Ellaktor fell by 7.12 percent. The only blue chip to end higher was Titan Cement (up 3.64 percent).

In total 30 stocks registered gains, 97 posted losses and 25 ended unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 87.8 million euros, up from Monday’s 75.5 million.
