Small drop for blue chips ahead of year’s final session

Greek blue chips posted moderate losses on Monday after Friday’s big gains and have just half a session left in 2013 as Tuesday will be a half-day at the Athens bourse, following a year of remarkable growth.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 1,158.03 points, shedding 0.62 percent from Friday’s 1,165.24 points.

The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX 25 also contracted by 0.62 percent to end at 386.24 points, but the mid-cap index inched up 0.14 percent and small-caps grew by 0.43 percent.

Frigoglass stood out among the blue chips, expanding by 2.14 percent, while Ellaktor gave up 3.07 percent and Marfin Investment Group declined 2.84 percent.

In total 63 stocks posted gains, 79 suffered losses and 24 remained unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 88.2 million euros, down from Friday’s 109.7 million.
