Index continues on its slow decline

Equities on the Athens Stock Exchange continued their slide for a fourth day yesterday, though a few buying orders stemmed the losses toward the close of the session. The benchmark general index dropped 0.67 percent to close at 1,977.66 points. It gained 1.59 percent on the week on the strength of the single session with gains, on Monday. Most sectoral indices ended with losses, led by publishing and printing (4.14 percent) and IT equipment/solutions (1.87 percent). The indices that registered gains were wholesale commerce (1.27 percent), food and beverages (0.18 percent), real estate (0.12 percent) and information technology (0.11 percent). Turnover, at 131 million euros, was significantly reduced compared to the week’s previous sessions. Decliners led advancers 219 to 99. Tria Alfa’s common and preferred shares led individual gainers, rising 17.99 percent and 17.31 percent, respectively. Sex Form led decliners with a drop of 8.19 percent.
