Retailers expect winter sales to post smaller drop than in 2013
Tradesmen are reservedly optimistic about the winter sales period that begins on Monday and lasts until the end of February.
Although they expect turnover to go down from the same period last year, they believe the drop will be smaller than that witnessed a year ago.
Estimates from the National Confederation of Hellenic Commerce (ESEE) put the expected turnover in this sales window at 5 billion euros, down from 5.5 billion in 2013 – i.e. a decline of just under 10 percent. The annual drop last year had amounted to 14 percent, while in 2012 it had come to 14.89 percent.
Retailers also believe that the operation of stores on the first Sunday of the sales period, January 19, will contribute to a rise in turnover.
