Government spokesman denies plans to replace Stournaras

Government spokesman Simos Kedikoglou repeated on Monday that the government does not have plans to replace Finance Minister Yannis Stournaras.

Speaking to Vima FM, Kedikoglou said that Stournaras still has “significant work to do” at the Finance Ministry.

“Despite our repeated denials of press reports about supposed changes in the leadership of the Finance Ministry, we categorically underline that there is no issue of Yiannis Stournaras being removed,” the spokesman said.

Reports earlier this month had suggested the Stournaras could become the next governor of the Bank of Greece, with Prime Minister Antonis Samaras’s adviser Stavros Papastavrou taking over at the Finance Ministry.
