Samsung set to follow example of HP in Piraeus
South Korean multinational Samsung is the latest technology giant to examine the possibility of forwarding its products to the countries of Central and Eastern Europe via the port of Piraeus.
Samsung’s head of consumer electronics, Boo-Keun Yoon, is due to arrive in Greece tomorrow to lead talks with SEP, the local subsidiary of China’s Cosco, which operates docks II and III in Piraeus.
SEP officials say initial contacts between Samsung and the Greek container terminal operator have already taken place, with the Korean firm expressing a strong interest in utilizing the advantages of Piraeus as the entry point for its products destined for the continent.
The Cosco subsidiary will present its cooperation model already agreed with Hewlett Packard and Greek rail operator Trainose for the forwarding of the US company’s goods to Central Europe.
Along with deals with China’s Huawei and ZTE, the HP agreement is expected to increase the interest of other firms too.
