Energy tax cut on the cards
A ministerial committee on industrial issues convened on Friday with the participation of sector representatives to discuss measures that would ease local industries’ energy costs by some 150 million euros, but Kathimerini understands an additional measure is being considered by the Environment and Energy Ministry.
This latter measure concerns the reduction of the special consumption tax on electricity and natural gas for industry, provided it gets the green light from the Finance Ministry and, most importantly, the country’s creditors.
The plan is for the measure to be funded with money set aside for the smog reduction program, totaling 40 million euros. Just 5 million euros of that has been used so far and a large amount is expected to be left over as the winter is approaching its end.
