Local startups head to Texas event in record numbers

The participation of 16 Greek high-tech enterprises in this year’s “Startup Village” at the South by Southwest Interactive Festival in Austin, Texas, next month serves to confirm the welcome growth of innovation in the Greek economy over the past few years, despite the financial crisis.

The international event is the first time that so many newly-founded Greek companies will appear simultaneously at one forum abroad and its bodes well for more growth in the sector. The Greek startups that will travel to Texas are: Amen Technologies, eConais, GridMates, Hypertech, Intelen, Meazon, Mobiltron, Moosend, PeekInToo, Pinnatta, QReca, Rabt, Rocketgraph, Resin.io, Schoox and Terranova.

“We are really proud to form part of such a strong team of Greek startups in the SXSW Interactive Festival. Our participation is an opportunity for us to present on a global level some of the strong examples of Greek creativity and innovation,” Yiannis Broustas told Kathimerini. He is the head of Rabt, a personalized mobile video application that was among the winners of the Hellenic Entrepreneurship Awards of 2013.

Participation is organized pro bono by AngelouEconomics, an economic and business development consultancy in Austin, TX, with the operational support of the Embassy of Greece in Washington, DC, and sponsored by The Hellenic Initiative, Libra Group, Pflugerville, TX Community Development Corporation and the International Accelerator. “Entrepreneurs like these will help Greece build new economic foundations. They demonstrate the innovative spirit required to overcome the ongoing economic crisis,” commented Libra Group CEO, George M. Logothetis, chair of THI’s Entrepreneurship Committee, “and we hope the Greek Exhibit will accelerate their growth.”
