Growth in logistics will reduce retail prices
The retail prices of commodities in Greece could decline between 3 and 15 percent if the country’s logistics sector were developed, the ministers of development, Costis Hatzidakis, and infrastructure, Michalis Chrysochoidis, argued on Tuesday while presenting a draft law on the sector in Parliament.
The savings in the final price of a product depend on the type of commodity, and according to international practice, for commodities of everyday use the price drop ranges between 3 and 6 percent, for high-technology products (such as cell phones) prices fall by 10 to 15 percent, while others such as electrical appliances see their prices shrink between 7 and 10 percent, said Nikos Stathopoulos, the general secretary for transport.
The main point of the new bill concerns the simplification of the licensing process for logistics centers, as in most cases (with the exception of very large enterprises), companies will just need to submit a formal statement to obtain a permit to operate a logistics center in Greece. The new process will be combined with the main law for the simplification of company licensing, Hatzidakis explained.
