Most stocks rise but blue chip losses hurt index

The Greek bourse presented a mixed picture at the end of Wednesday’s trading, with the majority of stocks going up but the benchmark and most blue chips losing some ground.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 1,319.59 points, shedding 0.28 percent from Tuesday’s 1,323.36 points. The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX 25 declined 0.48 percent to 425.95 points, although mid-caps expanded by 0.58 percent and small-caps by 0.71 percent.

Corinth Pipeworks stood out with gains of 5.91 percent, while Frigoglass expanded by 4.35 percent.

Eurobank Properties dropped 3.95 percent, Terna Energy shrank by 2.37 percent, OTE slumped 2.34 percent and GEK Terna fell 2.31 percent.

In total, 82 stocks registered gains, 58 posted losses and 23 stayed unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 87.7 million euros, down from Tuesday’s 99 million.
