Visitors from Germany set to return in great numbers

Greece will post significant growth in foreign tourist arrivals this year as bookings from the German market are already showing a jump on last year, German Travel Association (DRV) chief Juergen Buechy said in the context of the ITB travel fair that is currently taking place in Berlin.

German tour operators are reporting an increase of over 10 percent from last year in bookings for touring trips to central Greece, while Greece’s dynamic return as a destination for German holidaymakers is confirmed by a Travelzoo survey which showed that of the 82 percent of its clients who wish to travel abroad, 17 percent said they wanted to go to Greece. Buechy added that Germans this year are more eager than ever to travel.

As a part of Greece’s participation in the ITB fair, Tourism Development Minister Olga Kefaloyianni on Wednesday signed an agreement for the development of tourism for seniors and wellness tourism with German Deputy Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development Hans Joachim Fuchtel. The agreement will be put into practice as of this month on the island of Rhodes and Kefaloyianni has committed to facilitating these categories of visitors in terms of access to hotels and other tourism infrastructure.
