Two main airports enjoy a huge upturn in arrivals
Arrivals from abroad at the country’s two main airports posted an impressive 28.8 percent increase in the first two months of the year on an annual basis, according to data published on Monday by the Association of Hellenic Tourism Enterprises (SETE).
Arrivals from abroad at the airports of Athens and Thessaloniki amounted to 395,307 in the year to end-February, compared to 306,887 in the same period in 2013.
This data came on the same day as positive comments by the secretary-general of the World Tourism Organization, Taleb D. Rifai, who told a maritime tourism conference at the Acropolis Museum in Athens that the mood toward Greece as a destination has been fully reversed in the 18 months.
He added that the 15 percent rise in tourism arrivals posted by Greece in 2013 is three times the global average.
