New 34-month high for bourse index

National Bank led the bourse benchmark to new 34-month highs on a day of favorable fiscal news that saw nearly all blue chips on the Greek stock market posting gains on Tuesday.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 1,360.37 points, the highest since May 11, 2011, as it expanded 1.62 percent from Monday’s 1,338.68 points. The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX 25 rose 1.82 percent to 438.03 points.

In its third consecutive session of gains, National added 8.74 percent on Tuesday, followed by Frigoglass with a rise of 5.21 percent and Piraeus Port Authority, which climbed by 4.50 percent. Folli Follie bucked the trend, posting a 0.77 percent contraction.

In total, 93 stocks registered gains, 51 took losses and 26 remained unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 109 million euros, down from Monday’s 118 million.
