Slight drop in the index; small-caps up

Stocks fell slightly yesterday, led by declining heavyweights OTE and Alpha Bank, but the mood remained upbeat among investors and more shares advanced than declined. The Athens Stock Exchange benchmark general index dropped 0.60 percent to close at 2,073.01 points. Alpha Bank lost 2.89 percent to close at 16.56 euros and OTE dropped 1.89 percent to close at 10.40 euros. Turnover was 191.08 million euros, of which 1.7 million concerned pre-arranged transfers of share blocks. State pools and lottery firm OPAP was the most heavily traded stock, with a turnover of 15.7 million euros, followed by OTE (8.31 million), National Bank (7.70 million), Lambrakis Press (7.45 million) and Alpha Bank (5.45 million). Blue chips fell 0.83 percent and mid-caps, 0.07 percent. However, small-caps rose 1.26 percent. Among sectoral indices, publishing and printing rose 1.96 percent, while IT solutions and equipment dropped 1.54 percent.
