Greek deficit at 12.7 pct of GDP in 2013, debt at 175.1 pct

Greece’s general government deficit reached 23.1 billion euros or 12.7 percent of gross domestic product in 2013, according to figures published by the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) on Monday.

This was Greece’s largest deficit since the crisis began, with the 2012 shortfall coming in at 8.9 percent of GDP.

ELSTAT also place Greece’s general government debt at a nominal value of 318.7 billion euros, or 175.1 percent of GDP.

Greece’s debt in 2012, when it restructured bonds held by the private sector, was at 157.2 percent of GDP.
