Aegean sees passenger rise

Aegean Airlines recorded losses of 8.4 million euros in the first quarter of the year.

This compares with total losses of 13.2 million euros that Aegean and its recently acquired subsidiary Olympic Air recorded in the same period last year – i.e. a containment of 37 percent – the carrier announced on Tuesday.

Group turnover came to 133.9 million euros, rising by 1 percent from the two airlines’ combined total turnover of 132.2 million euros a year earlier.

Total passenger traffic for Aegean and Olympic posted a 12 percent increase amounting to 1.6 million, as their domestic network enjoyed a 17 percent rise (930,000 passengers) while passengers aboard their international flights numbered 700,000, a 6 percent year-on-year increase.

The seat occupancy rate recorded a yearly rise of 1.8 percent.
