Biggest ever Posidonia shipping fair opens
Premier Antonis Samaras and Merchant Marine Minister Miltiadis Varvitsiotis launched the Posidonia 2014 international shipping exhibition on Monday.
According to the organizers, this year’s Posidonia will be its biggest edition ever.
The prime minister stressed that Greece is emerging as the best possible gateway to continental Europe for trade by sea from the Middle East and Far East Asia. For the opportunities that are appearing to be seized before they disappear, Greece needs investments to upgrade port infrastructure and land networks, as well as for shipyards and to promote the country as a regional center for producing and transmitting energy.
Varvitsiotis noted that Greek shipowners are currently the biggest single group in terms of new ship orders.
This year’s Posidonia will be hosting 1,800 exhibitors from 93 countries and expects up to 19,000 visitors up until Friday.
