Stournaras faces parliamentary committee ahead of central bank appointment

The appointment of Yannis Stournaras as new governor of the Bank of Greece was expected to be approved Wednesday following a hearing before the Parliament’s public utilities committee.

Stournaras successor at Greece’s Finance Ministry, Gikas Hardouvelis, was expected to attend the session.

The country’s leftist opposition has objected the appointment of Stournaras as central banker with party leader Alexis Tsipras suggesting that a SYRIZA administration might seek to replace him.
