Stournaras sworn in at BoG’s helm

Yannis Stournaras was sworn in as the new governor of the Bank of Greece on Friday in the presence of President Karolos Papoulias (center) and Finance Minister Gikas Hardouvelis (left).

After his swearing-in, former Finance Minister Stournaras expressed his confidence that the groundwork had been laid in the last few years for a better economy and a model of better economic growth, while stressing that monetary stability is an indispensable piece of the new growth model.

“I believe that the Greek economy is now on a better course and from my position I shall help for the benefit of the Greek people,» he pledged.

Ioannis Papadakis is the deputy governor, while the other deputy governor’s position remains empty as Eleni Louri’s tenure ended on June 20 and her replacement would have to be ratified by the new governor. The position is expected to be covered in the next few days.
