Greeks get slightly less downbeat
The percentage of Greeks who view their financial situation as bad or very bad declined by 4 points in the period from May 31 to June 14, compared with three months earlier, but at 67 percent it remains at a particularly high level, according to a Eurobarometer survey published on Friday. This compares with a 31 percent average rate across the European Union.
On employment, 98 percent of Greeks say the situation is bad, down from 99 percent three months earlier, against a 74 percent EU average. Almost half of Greeks (48 percent) consider their job situation as bad, while 30 percent appear satisfied, up 8 percent from the previous survey. They remain downbeat on the course of employment in the country, as 51 percent expect a deterioration in the next 12 months against just 16 percent who expect an improvement
Crucially, 56 percent of Greeks feel they run the risk of sinking into poverty, against 32 percent in the EU.
