Parga, Nafplio, Skiathos, Tolo most popular destinations

Hotel rates at Greek and Cypriot destinations popular with foreign tourists tend to be pricey whereas those dependent on domestic tourism offer cheaper accommodation, according to research engine Trivago, which based its data on bookings made between May 1 and July 31 for holidays between August 14 and 18.

The lowest average online price, 51 euros for a double room per overnight stay, was found in Aghia Marina on the island of Aegina, followed by Tolo, near Nafplio, at 62 euros, and Skopelos at 64 euros.

By contrast,the highest rate was found in Hora on Myconos, at 252 euros.

The most popular destinations were Parga, Nafplio, Skiathos, Hania, Aghia Marina, Myconos, Limenas on Thassos, Neos Marmaras in Halkidiki, Paphos, Tolo, Nikiana, Hora on Skopelos, Spetses, Kallithea in Halkidiki, Syvota in Thesprotia, Limenaria on Thassos, Laganas on Zakynthos, Vassiliki on Lefkada, Naoussa on Paros and Hanioti in Halkidiki.

Responding to complaints by Greek holidaymakers that they often pay higher prices than foreign visitors, hoteliers’ representatives point out that rates for the same hotel room may vary widely according to season, availability and package discounts for tour operators.
