Greece appeals to Brussels over compensation for peach farmers

Greece has appealed to the European Commission for a revision of the method applied to calculate the distribution of national compensation amounts for European Union peach and nectarine farmers affected by the Russian trade embargo on numerous agricultural products produced in the bloc.

A total of 33 million euros has been allotted as compensation money for these producers.

Officials in Greece are pushing for the national compensation proportions to be determined based on share of exports to the Russian market, rather than the number of producers and production, as had originally been planned by the European Commission. Greece’s appeal is currently being looked into in Brussels.
