Hundreds of thousands of pending tax cases

Over 400,000 tax> cases remain pending at the country’s administrative courts, with half of them yet to receive a date for their hearings, according to a report presented on Thursday by the Business Environment Observatory of the Hellenic Federation of Enterprises (SEV).

Value-added tax cases lead the way with an average waiting time of 9.3 years, while the average delay period for all tax cases amounts to 5.3 years. The toll on enterprises due to the delays ranges from 7 percent to 52 percent of the disputed amount in each case.

Among the proposals that SEV is making to overcome this situation are the rapid conclusion of similar cases, the extrajudicial resolution of tax cases, and improvements in judicial administration, the efficiency of court services and the general operation of the state mechanism.
