Greece to scrap need for permits in some 900 professions

The government is to scrap operating permits for almost 900 professions, Development Minister Costas Skrekas said on Monday.

Skrekas said the permits will not be needed for 897 professions, which account for 14.3 percent of Greek gross domestic product.

According to the minister, businesses will simply have to submit their papers to the General Commercial Registry (GEMI) and then follow set guidelines rather than have to go through a separate process to get their permits.

Skrekas said this would save businesses some three months when starting up.
