Trade deficit widens by 8.7 percent during Jan-Sept period, says ELSTAT report

The total value of exports-dispatches in September 2014 came to 2285.8 million euros compared to 2504.5 million euros in September 2013, pointing to 8.7 percent drop, according to figures released by the Hellenic Statistical Authority, ELSTAT, on Tuesday. The corresponding change excluding oil products recorded a drop of 2 million euros (0.1 percent).

The report noted that the total value of imports-arrivals in September 2014 reached 4350.7 million euros, compared to 4043.6 million euros in September last year, pointing to a 7.6 increase. The corresponding change excluding oil products recorded an increase of 329.3 million euros or 13.3 percent.

The deficit of the trade balance in September 2014 reached 2064.9 million euros in comparison to 1539.1 million euros in September 2013, recording an increase of 34.2 percent. The corresponding change excluding oil products recorded an increase of 331.3 million euros or 31.1 percent, the report showed.

The total value of imports-arrivals for the 9-month period from January to September 2014 came to 35684.9 million euros in comparison with 35352.3 million euros for the corresponding period in 2013 recording an increase of 0.9 percent. The corresponding change excluding oil products recorded an increase of 1620.8 million euros or 7.3 percent. The total value of exports-dispatches, for the 9-month period from January to September 2014 came to 20011.8 million euros, compared to 20938.3 million euros, for the corresponding period of 2013, recording a drop of 4.4 percent. The corresponding change excluding oil products recorded a drop of 323.9 million euros or 2.6 percent.

The deficit of the trade balance, for the January-September 2014 period amounted to 15673.1 million euros, compared to 14414 million euros the same time the previous year recording an increase of 8.7 percent. The corresponding change excluding oil products recorded an increase of 1944.7 million euros (19.7 percent).
