Wednesday’s stock gains wiped out on Thursday

All of Wednesday’s stock gains evaporated during Thursday’s trading session in Athens as uncertainty regarding the country’s political and fiscal future overshadowed the positive corporate results announced in the last few days.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 950.95 points, shedding 2.63 percent from Wednesday’s 976.65 points. The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX 25 index contracted 2.45 percent to 309.55 points.

All blue chips without exception headed south, led by Ellaktor, which fell 7.03 percent. Marfin Investment Group declined 5.53 percent, Eurobank dropped 5.32 percent, Hellenic Exchanges lost 5.08 percent and Mytilineos gave up 4.92 percent.

In total 31 stocks recorded gains, 81 registered losses and 21 ended up unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 84.9 million euros, slightly up on Wednesday’s 84.5 million.
