Finance Ministry inundated with applications for debt settlement
Within just a few days, some 40,000 state debtors have submitted online applications to join the new payment program of up to 100 installments, with the total amount of debts slated for repayment adding up to 500 million euros, according to figures released by the General Secretariat for Public Revenues.
This figure has already exceeded the expectations of the government, but its creditors are insisting that the plan should not accommodate debtors who have entered previous debt arrangements. They account for some 30 percent of the applicants for the new plans, or about 12,000 debtors.
