Shippers invest 1.44 bln euros in 11 LNG carriers

Greek shipowners have invested a total of 1.44 billion euros in acquiring 11 liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers so far this year, according to a report in Tuesday’s Wall Street Journal.

Shippers have made that investment in anticipation of European Union countries turning to third countries, such as Qatar, for their natural gas supplies in order to cut dependence on Russian fuel.

Greeks hold the second place in the world in terms of share of the global LNG fleet, as according to VesselsValue they control 65 LNG carriers worth 9.33 billion euros.
