Tourism bookings post 50 pct fall in recent period

The political turmoil of the last 10 days has led to a decline in new tourism bookings for next year by as much as 50 percent, said the head of the Association of Hellenic Tourism Enterprises (SETE), Andreas Andreadis, on Tuesday.

“We observe that this picture of uncertainty is being transmitted by the international media, putting the country’s European achievements in doubt in spite of the heavy sacrifices the Greek people have undergone,” read the message issued by SETE and its member associations after an extraordinary crisis meeting on Tuesday.

Sources from Athens International Airport added that international airlines are delaying the submission of their final schedules for next year as they wait for political developments in the country. There is also uncertainty regarding international conferences which had been scheduled to take place in Greece in 2015.
