Tourist arrivals reached a record 19 million in Jan-Sep 2014

International tourism arrivals in Greece reached a new record of 19 million in the first nine months of last year according to the Bank of Greece’s border survey published on Friday by the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT).

This marked a year-on-year increase of 22.2 percent, while the latest estimates by the Association of Hellenic Tourism Enterprises (SETE) for the whole of 2014 point to a record 24 million arrivals.

There was a remarkable rise in arrivals from France, amounting to 26.9 percent on a yearly basis, as they exceeded 1.3 million to beat visitors from Russia to third place, behind Germany and Britain.
