SMART WATER project: Recommendations and suggestions for future actions

“SMARTWATER” (Simple Management of Risks Trough a Web Accessible Tool for EU Regions) is a project that is co-financed by the EU Civil Protection Mechanism with duration from February 2013 and end at January 2015 and it aims to achieve a modular decision support tool, which is both scalable and interoperable with existing and future external systems and wishes to contribute to prevent flood events and solve main problems individuated at that time. In particular it focus on using the results and the scientific contributions existing at European Level, improving them until obtaining a smart application accessible at different territorial level.

Towards this direction, Region of Thessaly, which is a project partner, is organizing a conference with the presence of the Thessaly’s Mayors and relevant elected representatives. The event will be held on Wednesday 21st of January 2015 and at 11:00 at the premises of the Region in Larissa, during which Protocols of Understanding will be signed between the Region of Thessaly and the Municipalities that are interested in implementing the SMARTWATER decision support tool in their civil protection activities.

The project involves international actors from Italy, Greece, Romania and Bulgaria operating in the field of ICT, water-researches and local government.

Respectively are engaged the Province of Padua; the University of Thessaly; the Region of Thessaly; the Danube Delta National Institute for Research and Development and the Institute of Information and Communication Technologies of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.
