Widespread optimism boosts stocks, turnover in ATHEX

Growth in stock prices and trading volume on Friday confirmed widespread optimism about a deal will be achieved now that the government has restored contacts with the troika of Greece’s international creditors.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 893.98 points, adding 5.61 percent to Thursday’s 846.48 points. On a weekly basis it climbed 11.28 percent. The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX 25 index expanded 6.69 percent to end at 271.23 points.

Outperforming other blue chips was National Bank, rising 16.10 percent, with Alpha growing 12.86 percent and Piraeus Bank gaining 12.50 percent.

In total 105 stocks grew, 36 dropped and five stayed put. Turnover reached 210.3 million euros, against Thursday’s 127 million.
