Stathakis prefers PPPs for the concession of regional airports

Economy Minister Giorgos Stathakis said on Wednesday he is in favor of public-private partnerships with more than one stakeholder for the privatization of the country’s infrastructure.

On Skai TV he expressed opposition to the existing model of concession for the 14 regional airports and said he would prefer a privatization model similar to that used for Athens International Airport, whereby the state has conceded the operation of the terminal but remains its main stakeholder.

He added that German firm Fraport, which has bid for the 14 airports, fits the government’s preferred model.
