Small gains for blue chips ahead of break

Turnover on the Greek stock market remained low on Thursday, only marginally higher than Wednesday’s two-month low, as the bourse prepared to close through Tuesday for the Western Easter, when most other eurozone markets will also be closed. Blue chips saw moderate gains in Thursday’s session, while mid- and small-caps headed lower.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended at 771.32 points, adding 0.78 percent to Wednesday’s 765.37 points. The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX 25 index grew 0.97 percent to close at 229.56 points, while mid-caps declined 0.35 percent.

Mytilineos led the blue chips with gains of 5.84 percent, while Alpha Bank lost 4.73 percent.

In total 63 stocks expanded, 53 contracted and 13 stayed put.

Turnover amounted to 59.3 million euros, against Wednesday’s 53.3 million.
