Greece and lenders see progress in Brussels Group talks

There was progress in talks between Greece and its creditors over the weekend but the various sides still have much ground to cover, sources have told Kathimerini.

Both sides have indicated that the Brussels Group technical talks, which were held in Paris, were more productive than recent deliberations between representatives from Athens and the institutions.

Sources from the lenders’ side indicated that the Greek side was much better prepared than in previous encounters. However, there are still differences over a range of issues, including fiscal targets.

The issues covered over the weekend, included this year’s primary surplus, macroeconomic targets and privatizations. There is an attempt to arrive at common ground ahead of a Euro Working Group teleconference on Wednesday in preparation for the next Eurogroup meeting on April 24.
