TANKERS Aframax market ready to move further upward due to weather delays in the Med. and the last days of the month loading in the North Sea. – In the Med., the latest fixtures still stand at W/S 180-185 while on Cont., 80,000 tons of cargo are fixed at W/S 135 and 100,000 tons out of Baltic Sea at W/S 115. – Caribs firmer, with Valero having fixed M/T «Harmony» for 70,000 tons of cargo, loading October 19, discharging US Gulf, at W/S 175. – High rates for Suezmaxes in the Med., especially for cargoes out of Black Sea while West Africa remains inactive. Stasco has fixed M/T «Eurosea» for 130,000 tons, loading West Africa October 20, discharging US Gulf, at W/S 90. – In the Med., Karran for 80,000 tons of cargo, loading mid-October, discharging Med., has fixed M/T «Album» at W/S 175, while Slovneft has fixed M/T «Mare Dorico,» loading end-October Banias (Syria) with same destination, at W/S 170. – On the Cont., ExxonMobil has fixed Lundqvist tonnage for 80,000 tons of cargo, loading October 23 UK, discharging UKC, at W/S 135. DRY CARGO Another interesting day with all indices moving strongly upward. On October 8, Bulk carriers index gained 164, totaling 5,467, while Panamaxes index gained 281, totaling 4,079. – On Capers, Transfield has fixed M/V «Marine Corona,» 139,000 dwt, built 1982, delivery China October 20-30, trip via India, redelivery Far East, at USD 51,000 daily. – On Panamax in Far East, Enel has fixed M/V «Alkyon,» 74,800 dwt, built 2001, delivery Muscat October 12-26, trip via Richards Bay and Italy, redelivery Gibraltar, at USD 35,000 daily, while M/V «Halo Cygnus,» 273,900 dwt, built 1998, delivery Japan October 18-25, for 4-6 months’ trading, was fixed at USD 36,500 daily. – In Atlantic, Dreyfus has fixed M/V «Four Steel,» 74,000 dwt, built 1999, delivery US Gulf October 20-28, redelivery Far East, at USD 30,000 daily and USD 500,000 ballast bonus. – On smaller sizes, UASC has fixed M/V «Alexandros Th.,» 35,501 dwt, built 1984, delivery UK 11-12 October, redelivery Arabian Gulf, at USD 14,250 daily.
