Sunlight in torpedo battery contract

Industrial batteries maker Sunlight, a subsidiary of the Germanos group, has signed a 100-million-euro deal to develop battery systems for Atlas Elektronik GmbH, a subsidiary of British Aerospace Systems. The batteries will be designed for new-type torpedos, based on silver-zinc technology. The deal, signed for a minimum of 10 years, envisages exports of the products to be developed to over 10 countries, including Germany, Spain, Portugal and South Korea. Sunlight’s new plant in Komotini is projected to employ 120 workers initially and 200 later. Atlas Elektronik makes more than 50 percent of the world’s torpedos. Sunlight will deliver the first batteries in spring 2005 and is also to develop new torpedo technology based on lithium.
