Bosnia plant warns of closure
SARAJEVO (Reuters) – Bosnia’s sole aluminium plant, Aluminij Mostar, said yesterday it might halt production after a power firm decided to end a contract with its main energy supplier Debis International Trading, part of DaimlerChrysler AG. Sarajevo-based state power company Elektroprivreda BiH (EPBiH) decided last month to end a five-year contract with Debis International Trading GmbH after a series of failed attempts to agree on a higher price. «Aluminij could not afford a new hike in the price of electricity. It is now up to authorities to find a proper solution, otherwise we must halt production,» a company spokesman said. EPBiH, which exports up to 45 percent of its output, provides two-thirds of the power that Aluminij needs to operate.
