TANKERS Firm rates in all areas, with Suezmaxes in Med. being fixed at W/S 235 out of Black Sea. – Same sizes out of W. Africa are being fixed above W/S 200. Addax has fixed M/T «Venetia» for 130,000 tons of cargo, loading Jan. 10, discharging US Gulf, at W/S 205. – VLCCs steady out of Arabian Gulf, with Kushu having fixed M/T «Utah» for 260,000 tons of cargo, loading Jan. 13, discharging Japan, at W/S 152.5, while Suezmaxes out of the same area are being fixed at W/S 150 with destinations East. – China Oil fixed M/T «Knock Allan» for 135,000-ton cargo, loading Jan. 17, discharging China, at W/S 190. – Aframaxes at very firm freight levels, with Petroval in the Med. fixing Minerva tonnage at W/S 290 out of B. Sea, while Exxonmobil in the Cont. for 80,000 tons of cargo, loading Dec. 28 for UKC round trip, has fixed M/T «Alfa Germania» at W/S 270. – In Caribs, Petrobras has fixed M/T «Crude Princess» for 70,000 tons of cargo, loading Dec. 30, discharging USAC, at W/S 280. – In the Med., Petroval for 80,000 tons of cargo, loading Jan. 12 Black Sea, discharging Med., has fixed M/T «Album» at W/S 245. – On Suezmaxes, Chevtex for 135,000 tons of cargo, loading Jan. 15, discharging UKC/Med., has fixed M/T «Front Warrior» at W/S 235. – In Cont., CSSA for 80,000-ton cargo, loading Dec. 30 for UKC round-trip voyage, has fixed M/T «Laura» at W/S 270. – In Caribs, Valero for 70,000 tons of cargo, loading Dec. 19, discharging US Gulf, has fixed M/T «British Oak» at W/S 270. – In W. Africa, Addax for 130,000 tons of cargo, loading Jan. 10, discharging US Gulf, has fixed M/T «Venetia» at W/S 205. – In Arabian Gulf, Stasco for 270,000 tons of cargo, loading Jan. 14, discharging Far East, has fixed M/T «Astro Callisto» at W/S 162.5. DRY CARGO Very firm market for Capers; increased interest in tonnage in Atlantic for early ships. More transatlantic cargoes than front haul fixings. – On period fixtures, Seyang has fixed M/V «Anella,» 149,735 dwt, built 1995, delivery Feb. 15-20 Japan for 7-9 months’ trading at USD 44,900 daily. – Pace on Panamaxes in Atlantic is slower with a few early ships yet to be fixed. But rates are holding steady. M/V «De Ping Hai,» 74,500 dwt, built 2002, delivery US Gulf end Dec. – beg. Jan., trip via Egypt, redelivery Passero, was fixed at USD 32,500 daily and USD 520,000 ballast bonus. – On periods and in the east, Transfield has fixed M/V «Captain Diamantis,» 74,500 dwt, built 2000, delivery Japan Dec. 27-31 for 12-14 months’ trading at USD 34,000 daily. – Handy/Handymax rates still very strong. Cargill with delivery Japan, redelivey Taiwan, has fixed M/V «Sea Lavender,» 50,236 dwt, built 2002, at USD 28,750 daily. – On smaller sizes, Pan Ocean has fixed M/V «Tomahawk,» 45,423 dwt, built 1995, delivery Dec. 15-25 S. Korea via East Coast, Australia, redelivery Red Sea at USD 25,600 daily.
