TANKERS Firm rates for all sizes, especially on Suezmaxes in all areas. – Stasco in N. Sea has fixed M/T «Genmar Horn» for 135,000 tons of cargo, loading Jan. 17 UK, discharging E. Coast Canada, at W/S 250, while Unipec out of Arabian Gulf for 255,000 tons of cargo, loading Jan. 5, discharging China, has fixed M/T «Lysaker» at W/S 162.5. – Also in N. Sea, CSSA has fixed M/T «Minerva Nounou» for 135,000 tons of cargo, loading Jan. 9 for UK/Cont. Corss at W/S 260. – In W. Africa, Sasol for 130,000 tons of cargo, loading Jan. 12, discharging S. Africa, has fixed alliance tonnage at W/S 300, while M/T «North Star» for same cargo, loading Jan. 15, discharging UKC/Med., was fixed at W/S 230. – Aframaxes are also being negotiated at very firm rates. – In Med., ENI has fixed M/T «Kanata Spirit» for 80,000 tons of cargo, loading Jan. 5, discharging Italy at W/S 245, while in Cont., Stasco for same cargo, loading Jan. 10, discharging US Gulf – USAC, has fixed M/T «Jag Laxmi» at W/S 297.5 – W/S 302.5, respectively. – In Caribs, Stasco has fixed M/T «Sanko Dynasty» for 70,000 tons of cargo, loading beg. Jan., discharging US Gulf, at W/S 320. – In Med., OMV for 80,000 tons, loading beg. Jan. Egypt, discharging Italy, has fixed M/T «Desh Rakshak» at W/S 235. – On Suezmaxes, Tamoil for 130,000 tons of cargo, loading Jan. 8 Libya, discharging Germany, has fixed M/T «Spetses» at W/S 257.5. – In Cont., Stasco for 80,000 tons, loading Jan. 10, discharging US Gulf – USAC, has fixed M/T «Jag Laxmi» at W/S 297.5 – W/S 302.5, respectively. – In W. Africa, Sasol for 130,000 tons of cargo, loading Jan. 12, discharging S. Africa, has fixed alliance tonnage at W/S 300. – In Arabian Gulf, Reliance for 245,000 tons of cargo, loading Jan. 5, discharging India, has fixed M/T «Seagull» at W/S 190. DRY CARGO Caper rates in the Atlantic have started to move up sharply. Rates also in Far East are being negotiated around USD 85,000 daily for local round-trip voyages. – On Panamaxes, spot rates have dipped in the East, with the owners wanting to fix before the holidays. NYK has fixed M/V «Hanjin Tacoma,» 70,347 dwt, built 1994, delivery Taiwan, Dec. 25-31, trip via Indonesia, redelivery Japan, at USD 39,000 daily. – On T/C periods, Pan Ocean has fixed M/V «Big Wave,» 69,346 dwt, built 1989, delivery Jan. 5-10 China for 11-13 months’ trading at USD 32,000 daily. – In Atlantic, rates are steady with China Steel having fixed M/V «Yong Feng,» 74,099 dwt, built 2000, delivery Pasero end Dec., trip via Brazil, redelivery Far East, at USD 34,000 daily. – Rates on Handymaxes, remain strong for tonnage in the US Gulf. 45,000-tonners are now in excess of USD 40,000 daily for transatlantic runs. – On Panamaxes in Far East, Daeyang has fixed M/V «Carol,» 75,608 dwt, built 1999, delivery Far East beg. Feb. for 16-18 months’ trading at USD 33,000 daily. – In Atlantic, NNC has fixed M/V «Kookaburra,» 75,607 dwt, built 2000, delivery US Gulf, Jan. 1-10, via Egypt, redelivery Passero at USD 31,700 daily and USD 640,000 ballast bonus. – On smaller sizes, MUR has fixed M/V «Adventure,» 32,587 dwt, built 1981, delivery end Dec. Muscat, trip via S. Africa, redelivery Med., at USD 17,500 daily. – On coal cargoes, China Steel Express has fixed M/V «Bunga Saga 10» for 70,000 tons of cargo, loading Jan. 8-15 Canada, discharging Taiwan at USD 23 per ton with 25,000-ton load and 28,000 tons discharge.
