Greek bourse starts trading week with notable losses

Declining blue chips dragged the benchmark of the Greek bourse lower on Tuesday, as the various scenarios regarding proposals and counterproposals placed on the negotiating table by Athens and its creditors appeared to confuse investors instead of inspiring them at the start of the four-day trading week.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 804.96 points, shedding 2.47 percent from Friday’s 825.38 points, although it had climbed above 833 points at the start of the session.

The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX 25 index contracted 3.52 percent to close at 240.87 points, yet mid-caps enjoyed 0.47 percent growth.

All but five blue chips lost ground, led by Terna Energy (down 7.60 percent), Hellenic Petroleum (7.02 percent) and OPAP (6.74 percent).

GEK Terna expanded 4.09 percent and Public Power Corp climbed 2.63 percent.

In total 50 stocks secured gains, 61 sustained losses and 14 remained unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 104.4 million euros, down from Friday’s 187.2 million.
