OLP chief quits before his ouster

After almost five years at the helm of Piraeus Port Authority (OLP) and having survived five government changes and three different managements at state sell-off fund TAIPED, chairman and chief executive Giorgos Anomeritis is said to have been forced to resign from the corporation that is set to be sold off.

Stressing his opposition to the sale of the majority of OLP shares at every opportunity on Wednesday, he tried “with his letter of resignation to appear as if it was his decision to depart and not that he was dismissed just three days ahead of the annual general meeting,” a person familiar with the matter told Kathimerini.

As a parting shot, Anomeritis is expected to introduce the issue of the immediate signing of a two-year collective labor contract with all unions into the agenda of tomorrow’s executive board meeting – one day before the general meeting. The previous contract has expired and the new one will have to be signed this summer, OLP sources confirmed. Anomeritis has the support of Alternate Minister for Shipping Theodoris Dritsas on this one.

The issue will be discussed during a meeting on Thursday between Anomeritis and TAIPED head Stergios Pitsiorlas, as well as during an inner cabinet meeting for the appointment of the new OLP management, also on Thursday.
