Weekly rise of 6.1 pct for local stocks

Stocks were split down the middle between winners and losers on Friday at the end of another session of thin trading in Athens. Nevertheless, the benchmark still posted weekly gains of 6.14 percent while the banks index added 33.08 percent in the same period.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 676.93 points, shedding 0.17 percent from Thursday’s 678.05 points. The large-cap FTSE 25 index edged up 0.03 percent to end at 200.80 points, but small-caps gave up 1.15 percent.

Banks rose 1.94 percent, with Eurobank growing 4.35 percent and Alpha rising 2.80 percent. Construction group Ellaktor climbed 2.87 percent, while Motor Oil fell 3.83 percent and Grivalia Properties conceded 3.27 percent.

In total 41 stocks went up, 41 decreased and 16 stayed unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 26.6 million euros, down from Thursday’s 37.2 million.
