ATHEX: Stocks post daily decline, weekly rise

The positive mood regarding the progress of the bank recapitalization process was not enough to keep the Greek bourse benchmark afloat on Friday as the majority of stocks ended lower.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 685.95 points, shedding 1.23 percent from Thursday’s 694.48 points. On a weekly basis the index added 1.33 percent. The large-cap FTSE 25 index contracted 1.08 percent to end at 205.25 points.

Bank stocks were split, as Alpha rose 6.67 percent and National gained 3.15 percent, while Eurobank slumped 16 percent and Piraeus fell 2.33 percent. Among other blue chips, Titan Cement dropped 4.65 percent and Grivalia Properties declined 4.63 percent.

In total 27 stocks showed gains, 58 took losses and 15 closed unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 48.1 million euros, just up on Thursday’s 47.9 million.
