Bourse ends in the red for third week

Bank chips on the Greek bourse ended the week with losses of 23.42 percent. The benchmark also chalked up a third week in the red, while trading volume picked up during Friday’s session.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed on Friday at 652.61 points, shedding 1 percent from Thursday’s 659.18 points. On a weekly basis it lost 3.66 percent.

The large-cap FTSE 25 index contracted 1.18 percent to end at 193.31 points.

Alpha Bank fell 9.09 percent and Piraeus Bank declined 8.51 percent, but Public Power Corporation, which is poised to enter the Standard MSCI index, advanced 5.38 percent.

National Bank grew 3.59 percent.

In total 31 stocks notched up gains, 53 had losses and 24 closed unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 55.8 million euros, the highest of the last eight sessions, up from Thursday’s 44 million.
