ATHEX: Index shakes off bank drop

The Greek bourse took the first dents in the government majority in its stride, and the benchmark shook off the increasing pressure on bank chips, posting marginal losses on Thursday.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 670.45 points, shedding 0.20 percent from Wednesday’s 671.82 points.

The large-cap FTSE 25 index contracted 0.18 percent to end at 200.42 points and mid-caps declined 1.98 percent.

Banks lost 15.08 percent, with Piraeus Bank falling 27.59 percent and Eurobank giving up 23.81 percent.

In total 40 stocks advanced, 55 lost ground and 22 stayed put.

Turnover amounted to 38.6 million euros.
